As with the smaller trailer developed for BA City Flyer (see news item 21/22 March 2014), Jet2 wanted various items of Juniper equipment and needed the facility to transport this equipment easily between sites. Jet2 had ordered our larger 2×25 gallon compressor wash rig together with a Kyoto containment mat, vacuum unit and a selection of engine wash probes, and it was decided a purpose built trailer would also be the ideal solution in this case. However, due to the higher capacity wash rig being needed, a larger trailer would be required.
The trailer was designed and adapted with floor and wall mounted anchor points for secure equipment stowage. A motorised winch was also fitted to help with loading and unloading the heavier 2×25 gallon wash rig (the addition of a winch meant that the rig could be loaded with full tanks in case a water supply wasn’t available at the wash site).
A further advantage of the larger trailer was that we also had room to include our static filtration unit, which meant that the waste water from any engine wash could be collected, filtered and safely disposed of at a convenient time.
The completed trailer was delivered to Jet2 at Manchester International Airport where staff were given training in the correct way to load and unload the equipment before the unit was commissioned with a wash on the no.2 engine of a Jet2 Boeing 737-400.
Using the CFM56-3 wash probes, and with the Kyoto containment mat in position, a successful wash was completed. The waste water was then collected using the vacuum unit and filtered into plastic drums to assess the filter’s effectiveness. Everyone present was enthusiastic about the results and impressed with how well the Juniper equipment did it’s job.
