Juniper cautions against the use of Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA) in water wash carts equipped with immersion heaters due to its flammability. Cautions are provided in the Aircraft Maintenance manuals to this effect.
If water washing at temperatures lower than 5ºC / 40ºF is desired:
1. Disable the immersion heaters.
The immersion heaters should be isolated. This is achieved by padlocking the isolation switch on the electrical control panel in the off position and tagging the padlock with a warning label. A handy accessory kit (JMP/IPA/B/6822) consisting of a warning pennant and padlock is available now from Juniper as an extra safeguard.
2. Use IPA for anti-icing as defined in the AMM.
To revert back to hot water washing proceed as follows:
3. Flush the water tanks at least twice with water to ensure that all IPA has been removed.
Water washing below -10ºC / 4ºF is not recommended.
Industry alternatives to IPA have been considered, but have not proved acceptable.
